Bug? Zumo avoids Mountain passes (seasonal closures)

Primairy source at Zumoforums

This is bad >:(

My results with the the Saint Michel and the Briancon test:

My zumo will take a short route with me (v4.20 and CN EU NT v2008) only not the D209, but the unpaved road next to the river :) But it will never follow the D209 with only the start and finish point. When adding 2-3 extra route points it will follow the D209 road.

My own test with 2 passes, the Gavia (N46.39701 E10.49536) and the Stelvio (N46.52864 E10.45280)
Start point: N46.32827 E10.87179
Via point 1: N46.46998 E10.36841
Via point 2: N46.62624 E10.60520
Stop point: N46.74921 E10.53567
Do not use the pass waypoints in the route, but only use them as checkpoints to see how the route routes.

In Mapsource (v6.13.7) in Shortest Route the difference in Sesonal avoidance or not is very recognizable. All other options of and the slider in the middle. And all 3 test are behaving the same in Mapsource.

When doing this in the zumo, The passes are always avoided! :(

So my conclusion till now is that with these 3 test with firmware 4.20 and CN EU NT2008 it looks like the seasonal road closure avoidance is always on.
But it is also possible that the road calculation algorithms are different in Zumo and Mapsource. Normaly we should expect that short is short, but Garmin always looks to more things than the very very short way like TomTom does.
Nevertheless it seems that we have a strange behaviour we should report to Garmin:

Deer Garmin,

It seems that with the zumo firmware v4.20 (and maybe earlier versions also) the hidden option avoid seasonal road closure is always on. I am not sure if it is this reason, but the route calculation of the zumo avoid a lot off mountain pass roads in the European Alps.

There are 3 test routes:
1. Start: N45.21569 E6.47494 (Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne) to: N45.03549 E6.40520
2. Start: N44.89683 E6.63557 (Briançon and Col d'Izoard) to: N44.74800 E6.77251
3. Test with 2 passes, the Gavia (N46.39701 E10.49536) and the Stelvio (N46.52864 E10.45280)
--- Start point: N46.32827 E10.87179
--- Via point 1: N46.46998 E10.36841
--- Via point 2: N46.62624 E10.60520
--- Stop point: N46.74921 E10.53567
--- Do not use the pass waypoints in the route, but only use them as checkpoints to see how the route routes.

When testing these routes in Mapsource version 6.13.7 with City Navigator EU NT v2008 (same CN version as in my zumo) and using shortest route the on/off switching and recalculation of seasonal road avoidance is very clear. Avoidance on, the roads are avoided and when off the mountain roads are used in the route.

The zumo itself does not have the option Avoid Seasonal Road closures, but the routing algorithm seems to act like this avoidance is default On.

Please turn this behavior off or add an option to the avoidance menu (preferable)

Thank you in advance,

Regards .......

Other tests with other Garmin software / devices:
<s>Garmin Mobile XT version 4.20.40wp, not possible to select seasonal avoidance, but Route is OK! </s>
Garmin Mobile PC version 5.00.10g, not possible to select seasonal avoidance, same problem as the zumo!

I have an answer from Garmin::

"There is no way in the unit to force the closures to be avoided or not avoided. All of the seasonal closures have dates associated with them as to when they are seasonally open and when they are seasonally closed. Right now the maps say all of these routes are seasonally closed. Once the maps say they are seasonally open the unit will route across them. There is no issue here with any of these units they are working as designed."

But what are the dates that the passed should be opened? 1 June? 1 July?

And if i now do the 3 tests, the first 2 will route you over the pass road, and the third one, it will route you over the Gavuia, but no over the Stelvio, but the Umbrail.

My assumption: opened from 1 June till 30 September by default. And the Stelvio from 1 July till 30 September.
