Re: Upgrade your zumo 590 to zumo 595 firmware

Berichtdoor retiredoldman » 02 mei 2018 17:20

Everything seemed to go well except when I click properties and tick "read only" and apply then ok. Then I copy and paste it into the zumo and overwrite the old one. The problem I'm having is it is no longer read only after I paste it into the zumo. Maybe I'm using the wrong software to do it, I'm using notepad. Any help would be great, Thank you

On what are you looking in properties?
Need more detailed info, which file, on what filelocation and what are you trying to perform.

Ok, everything flashed fine. The only problem I'm having is making the GarminDevice.xml a read only file. I was using notepad to edit it and thought I could just right click on the GarminDevice.xml file and click properties, then check the read only box. I must be using the wrong thing to change the file to read only. How do I make my GarminDevice.xml read only? Sorry for the lack of details.I use Windows 10 and edit the GarminDevice.xml in Notepad and then right click on the xml file to check box for read only, click apply , then click ok. I'm doing this on the desktop and then copy and paste or drag and drop the edited GarminDevice.xml to the Zumo, internal storage, Garmin folder. The GarminDevice.xml is read only before I move it to the Zumo and when I check it after it is in the Zumo, internal storage, Garmin folder it is no longer read only. Thanks for your time.

I figured it out. I had to change the MTP setting to Mass storage then all is well.

Go away from your desk, and go out and drive a few kilometers. It's the initial setup which disappearance after good and long GPS reception.

Absolutely everything works great on it excepting that it will not consistently work to make or receive phone calls. It pairs beautifully with my iPhone X to stream music, smart notifications, and all the other things, but it will not successfully make phone calls. The call goes through, but there is no audio in the Cardo Sho-1 headset. The Cardo Sho-1 also pairs beautifully with the Zumo for everything except phone calls. Anyone know a solution to this?

Bluetooth is always a headache., Did it work with the original 590 firmware correctly? If so, then go back. If you had the same problems, it will probably never be fixed. But you can call/email Garmin for a bug fix.

Risk is this one:
If you call Garmin: An iPhone X? Sorry thats not on the supported phone list.
Will it ever work? Nobody knows, maybe. If enough people with an iPhone X and zumo 590 complain, then there is a change.

The problem was with the original firmware 590. (immediately after purchase)
there is no difference iphone 6 or iphone X - the problem arises.

I have Zumo 590 and Samsung Galaxy Note 4. This set worked perfectly.
I have a problem after upgrade my Zumo 590 to fw595: If the upgraded Zumo is switch-off or in sleeping mode, after awakening the SmartLink in phone not reconnect with Zumo, only if Note4 is completely restarted. Turn off-on bluetooth only is not enough, restart SmartLink only is not enough, on-off Flight mode on Note 4 is not enough.
Have anybody a similar problem with upgraded Zumo 590 to 595?

Folks.

I am afraid I do not know who the contact is that downloads and maintains the firmware files at http://gawisp.com/perry/zumo/
I updated my 590 with version Zumo595_420.gcd last year. It has worked great since that update. I just saw that version Zumo595_440.gcd was available, so I downloaded it to install. But when I completed the install, when I checked the Zumo device info, it showed version 4.3, not 4.4 as expected.

I the down loaded the Zumo595_430.gcd file and compared it to the Zumo595_440.gcd file. They seem to be the exact same size, 33491kb. Is it possible that there was a mix up, and the Zumo595_430.gcd version was incorrectly named to Zumo595_440.gcd ??

BTW, the forum is great. I really appreciate being able to convert my 590 to 595 last year.

After you updated the zumo 590 with the procedure then all following firmware updates (till now it works) do not need any work. Just use Garmin Express to download the firmware file (zumo 595) and let the zumo install the firmware.

The files at perry are the same size, but don't share the same content. Zumo595_440.gcd (http://gawisp.com/perry/zumo/Zumo595_440.gcd) is definitely the 4.40 firmware.

That being said, Marco is right, just update your device using Garmin Express.
gr, Marcel.
